8. Charles (Simpson) Portwood. Born on 3 May 1844 in Sullivan, Indiana. Charles (Simpson) died on 9 Oct 1876; he was 32.

Charles (Simpson) married Mary Secrest Jackson. Born on 11 Apr 1831. Mary Secrest died on 20 Feb 1903; she was 71.

They had the following children:

		i.	Lydia Ann. Born on 15 Dec 1866.
		ii.	Fanny May. Born on 3 May 1870.

9. Hugh Portwood. Born on 23 Oct 1845 in Knox, Indiana. Born in Oct 1845 in Ind. Hugh died in Bourbon Co, Kansas, on 26 Jan 1931; he was 85. Hugh died in Bourbon Co, Ks, in 1931; he was 85.

bef 1870 when Hugh was 24, he first married Emily A. “Emma” Conner, daughter of Thomas Gallatin Conner & Martha Whitworth. Born on 30 Jan 1851 in Illinois. Emily A. “Emma” died on 24 Sep 1877; she was 26.

They had the following children:

		i.	Alberta D.. Born on 19 Dec 1870. Alberta D. died on 19 Jan 1880; she was 9.
		ii.	Anna Martha. Born on 30 Apr 1872 in Bourbon Co, KS. Anna Martha died in Kansas City, Clay, Missouri, on 19 Jan 1931; she was 58. Anna Martha first married M. D. L. Cottingham. Anna Martha second married William M. Griffis. Born in Miami, OK.
		iii.	Allie Viola. Born on 30 Mar 1874 in Bourbon Co, KS. Allie Viola died in Manhattan, Riley Co, KS, on 15 Feb 1962; she was 87. Allie Viola married Charles Clinton Ball. Born on 1 Jan 1848. Charles Clinton died on 13 Jun 1937; he was 89.

On 21 Apr 1870 when Hugh was 24, he second married Margaret Marcella “Maggie” Conner, daughter of Thomas Gallatin Conner & Martha Whitworth, in Bourbon Co, Ks. Born on 4 Feb 1854 in Illinois. Margaret Marcella “Maggie” died in Bourbon Co, Ks, on 10 Nov 1922; she was 68.

They had the following children:
